How many British citizens died in foreign countries, from 1 January 2023 to today (13 December 2023). This can include any cause of death.

Thank you for your request.
We only hold data on those deaths that are registered in England and Wales.
There is an option to register the death of those abroad with the General Register Office, but this is not compulsory. The information available may be different from that collected at registration in this country. Please contact the General Register Office for more information GROCasework@gro.gov.uk
If you would like to obtain the information we hold as described above, this is available to order through our bespoke services. Special extracts and tabulations of deaths data for England and Wales are subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreement of costs, in line with the ONS Charging Policy.
