You asked

Please can you tell me the total number of deaths in the past year that have 'Hospital Acquired Covid' on the Death Certificate and what is that figure as a percentage of all COVID related deaths.

We said

Thank you for your request.

We are responsible for the provision of mortality statistics for England and Wales. National Records Scotland (NRS) and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. They can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.

The mortality data ONS hold is based on the information collected on the death certificate at death registration. Unfortunately, we are unable to identify where the infection was acquired because this is not recorded on the death certificate. We are only able to provide information such as sex, age group, area of usual residence, cause of death and place that death occurred (home; hospital; hospice; care home; elsewhere). We therefore consider this as information not held.
