Thank you for your request regarding homicides in England and Wales.

Unfortunately, we do not hold the information you have requested by single year.

However, we do publish some domestic homicide data in the Domestic abuse: prevalence and trends, England and Wales: year ending March 2020 publication for a combined three year period. The most recent period covered is the year ending March 2017 to the year ending March 2019. In this publication we provide the number of domestic homicides, characteristics of the victim relationship to suspect and the outcome for principal suspect in the accompanying appendix tables. We are unable to break this data down by individual year.

Alongside our Homicide in England and Wales: year ending March 2020 publication we published accompanying appendix tables providing information on whether the victim or suspect was under the influence of drugs or alcohol (table 17). This is based on three years of aggregated data including the years year ending March 2018 to year ending March 2020. We do also publish single year data for victim relationship to suspect in appendix table 12a.

Data on homicides is collected by the Home Office as part of the Homicide Index, from which we receive aggregated data for our publications. The Homicide Index, is a database separate from the main police recorded crime dataset. It contains detailed record-level information about each homicide recorded by the police in England and Wales. The Home Office may be able to provide you with the annual data you have asked for. They can be contacted at the following email address: CrimeandPoliceStats@homeoffice.gov.uk.

Data on court outcomes is recorded and held by the Ministry of Justice (MOJ). They may be able to assist you with the additional data you have requested on court outcomes. They can be contacted at the following email address: ESD@justice.gov.uk

If you have any other crime-related queries in the future, you can email crimestatistics@ons.gov.uk and we will endeavour to help.
