Please could you provide the number of stillbirths in the UK by year over the last 5 years.

Thank you for your request.
We are responsible for the production of birth registration data for England and Wales, this is driven by information collected from the birth certificate at birth registration. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland.
In collaboration with these organisations, we publish headline data as part of our Vital statistics in the UK: births, deaths and marriages. This provides United Kingdom (UK) data from 1961 to 2020. Stillbirths can be found on the Births tab, in columns AF to AK.

- 2019 - 2,763
- 2018 - 2,958
- 2017 - 3,200
- 2016 - 3,430
We will publish 2021 data on 24 February 2023.
