Thank you for your request.

We publish statistics based primarily on the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) and police recorded crime from the Home Office. Non-fatal strangulation and suffocation (Section 75(A) Serious Crime Act) comes under the offence category '8N - Assault with injury'. We publish data for 'Assault with injury' in our Crime in England and Wales: Appendix tables and in the Nature of violent crime appendix tables. However, unfortunately we do not hold data broken down by the specific offences within this crime category.

As the Home Office supply us with police record crime data, they may be able to assist you further regarding the number of recorded offences by type of offence. They can be contacted at CrimeandPoliceStats@homeoffice.gov.uk.

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) are primarily responsible for collating data on offenders and may also be able to assist you with your questions relating to suspects. They can be contacted via ESD@justice.gov.uk.

Additionally, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) publish overall prosecution figures, which may be helpful for you. They can be contacted at enquiries@cps.gov.uk.

If you have any queries about ONS data, the ONS Centre for Crime and Justice can be contacted at CrimeStatistics@ons.gov.uk.
