FOI-2023-1517

You asked

I would appreciate it if you could provide me with information on the current population figures (Census 2021) for Muslims living in Scotland including a breakdown of exact areas of Scotland and corresponding population numbers.

I would also like a demographic breakdown for this faith group in order to establish ethnic background, race, age, gender, employment and whether they are practicing or not.

Thank you for your freedom of information request.

We (the ONS) are only responsible for the census for England and Wales. Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland (NISRA) carry out their own censuses.

Although the UK censuses historically take place on the same day they are run separately by each National Statistics Office. In July 2020, the Scottish Government announced that Scotland's Census would take place in March 2022. England and Wales and Northern Ireland's census was on 21 March 2021.
