Thank you for your request.

In our latest bulletin we published analysis of the percentage of school workers, key workers and other professions in England who had COVID-19 from 2 September to 16 October.

We have also previously published analysis on occupation more broadly. This analysis can be found in Figure 3 of our July article, accessible via the following link: Coronavirus (COVID-19) infections in the community in England. Teachers are included in the "Professional occupations" category.

We do not hold information on the number of students that have been absent due to coronavirus. However, we have published some analysis on infection rates for students over time in in Figure 6 of our September article, accessible via the following link: Coronavirus (COVID-19) infections in the community in England.

Additionally, we publish age analysis of the number of people testing positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19) in England in our weekly COVID-19 Infection Survey Bulletin: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Infection Survey bulletin. We have recently updated our age categories to separate children and young people by school age:

  • "age two years to school Year 6" includes those children in primary school and below
  • "school Year 7 to school Year 11" includes those children in secondary school
  • "school Year 12 to age 24 years" includes those young adults who may be in further or higher education

Unfortunately, we do not hold information on the number of schools closed since reopening, so we will not be able to provide a response to your question.
