I would like to request information pertaining to the number of large goods vehicle drivers in the UK since 2000.

Thank you for your query regarding large goods vehicle drivers.
Estimates of employment by occupation are available from the Annual Population Survey, and published via Nomis each quarter on a rolling-annual basis. Unfortunately, we only hold estimates from 2004 onwards.
To download data from Nomis, please use the following instructions:
From the homepage, select "Data Sources"
Select "Annual Population Survey/Labour Force Survey"
For data from 2021 onwards, select "annual population survey - regional - occupation (SOC2020) by sex by employment type"
For data from 2004-2020, select "annual population survey – regional – employment by occupation (SOC2010)"
Select 'Query Data'
Then you can select the occupation (8211: Large goods vehicle drivers), the geography (country, LA, region etc), and the time periods of interest. You can also select sex breakdowns here.

We have also published some data on the ONS website that may be of interest. This table shows HGV drivers (SOC code 8211) by nationality and 10-year age group, between April 2014 to March 2015 and July 2022 to June 2023 (the latest data available).
