We said

Thank you for your enquiry

Unfortunately, we would be unable to provide you with monthly suicides for those with bipolar disorder. In order to fulfil this request, we would need use a high level of statistical skill and judgement in order to create bespoke analysis. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Authorities are not obligated to create information in order to respond to requests. We therefore consider this to be information not held.

However, you may find the following available publications useful.

Suicides in the UK – 2018 registrations: This is our latest Suicides in the UK publication. 2019 data will be published in September 2020.

We also offer a quarterly suicide publication Quarterly Suicide death registrations in England 2001-2018 registrations and Quarter 1 (Jan to March) to Quarter 4 (October – Dec) 2019 provisional data. This dataset will be updated to include Quarter 1 and Quarter 2 of 2020 on 1 September 2020.

If this does not meet your needs, we may be able to create a custom output where we could extract deaths where suicide was the underlying cause with ICD10 code F31 (Bipolar affective disorder) was recorded as a contributory factor. Information on monthly suicides for those with bipolar disorder along with other special extracts and tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales are available to order. Such services would be subject to legal frameworks, disclosure controls, resources and agreement of costs.

If you would like to request this bespoke dataset, please contact health.data@ons.gov.uk to discuss your enquiry further. Please note, there will be a charge for this work, which would be subject to our charging policy.
