Cases

The COVID-19 Infection survey is based on a nationally representative sample. To account for potential bias the results are adjusted to be more representative in terms of age, sex and region.

We then use statistical modelling techniques to estimate the number and rate of people testing positive for COVID-19. Please see the following dataset: Coronavirus Infection Survey. This accompanied our latest bulletin. Please find the following data for the period 26 April to 19 September:

  • our modelled daily positivity rates on tab 1b
  • our modelled daily positivity rates by age on tab 1g
  • our modelled daily positivity rates by region on tab 1e

The following dataset: Coronavirus infections in the community in England accompanying our characteristics article on 18 August contains our latest information on ethnicity alone. Data is presented on tabs 8 and 9 and is for the period 26 April to 26 July.

Please note these are estimates from the COVID-19 Infection survey. The Department for Health and Social Care produce the number of confirmed daily cases including by local authority in their dashboard via the following link: Department of Health and Social Care – Coronavirus Cases in the UK. They may be better placed to answer any further queries you may have relating to COVID-19 cases.
