Thank you for your request.

Our Domestic abuse in England and Wales bulletin for the year ending March 2020  included analysis of data from the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) and covered adults aged 16 to 74 years who were resident in households in England and Wales and who completed the self-completion section of the CSEW on domestic abuse, sexual assault, and stalking. On the return of face-to-face CSEW interviewing in October 2021, following its suspension in March 2020 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the upper age limit for respondents to the self-completion section was removed. Analysis of data from the CSEW now covers adults aged 16 years and over.

Domestic abuse data for the year ending March 2022 can be found in our 'Domestic abuse victim characteristics, England, and Wales: year ending March 2022' article and its accompanying dataset 'Domestic abuse prevalence and victim characteristics'. CSEW data for the year ending March 2022 are not badged as National Statistics. They are based on six months of data collection between October 2021 and March 2022. Caution should be taken when using these data due to the impact of the reduced data collection period and lower response rates on the quality of the estimates.

The prevalence of domestic abuse for people aged 16 years and over split by household and area characteristics and sex for England and Wales can be found in Table 7 of this dataset. Within this table, you can find the prevalence of domestic abuse for Wales, split by sex. Estimates are broken down by government office region, with prevalence split by English regions and Wales.

The estimated number of victims of domestic abuse aged 16 years and over split by type of abuse and sex, for England and Wales, can be found in Table 2 of this dataset. Estimates in this table are not disaggregated by country, therefore all estimates presented are for England and Wales combined.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide you with the specific data breakdowns you require from the CSEW. In order to answer your request, we would need to create new information using statistical expertise and experience. Under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000, public authorities are not obligated to create information in response to requests. This information therefore is not held under FOIA.
