Please can you help me find the data set as outlined below for Reading Berkshire compared to the rest of England for 1990 my understanding is that it is the 1991 consensus I need.

Reading Property Ownership & Rental Statistics

Reading has a lower rate of home ownership (via a mortgage or owned outright) than the national average, which suggests that Reading is an economically deprived area.

Thank you for your request about locating property ownership and rental data for Reading Berkshire in 1990.

The 1991 Census would provide the tenure data required closest to 1990 and will provide you with the correct information to populate the table you have provided.

Our Census data can be accessed through https://www.nomisweb.co.uk/

To produce the table you are interested in, once on Nomis, please take the following steps:

  1. Select 'Query data' under Data Downloads

  2. Select 'Census 1991' and then '1991 census - local base statistics'

Now you can make selections about what Geography and Cell data you require. To get England and Reading data in one table:

  1. Select Geography, and then 'Some' from the dropdown menu next to 'countries'. A list of countries will then appear, where you can tick the box next to 'England'

  2. Click on 'Choose a different type of area'

  3. Select 'Some' from the dropdown menu next to 'local authorities: district' and then find Reading under the region 'South East' to tick

  4. Once both England and Reading are ticked, click on 'Cell' on the left-hand side of the page

  5. Select 'Tables L19 to L27: Housing' and then 'L20 Tenure and amenities'

  6. Put a tick in the options you would like to see produced in the final table (it seems like you probably want 1-9 selected)

  7. Click 'Download data' on left hand side of page when you are happy with your selections.

One thing to note is that the tenure categories for the 1991 Census is slightly different to your classifications.
