You asked

I would like to request the statistics on sexual assaults, including rapes, against university students in the UK for the past few years. The latest FOI relates to 2016-2018 but I was wondering if there were more up to date statistics.

Thank you for your request.

We do not hold the exact information requested, however we hope you may find the following information helpful.

The most recent data on sexual offences can be found in our publication Sexual offences in England and Wales overview: year ending March 2020. Figures for sexual assault and rape by personal characteristics (including the respondents occupation and employment status) are available from Table 5 of our Sexual offences prevalence and victim characteristics, England and Wales dataset. These figures refer to the year ending March 2018 to the year ending March 2020.

The CSEW does not sample from the entire adult population of England and Wales; it interviews adults residing in households and does not cover people living in group residences (for example, students' halls of residence). It is therefore not representative of the whole university student population.

CSEW data only covers England and Wales; we do not hold police recorded crime data or crime survey data covering the whole of the UK.

Crime-related data for Scotland are published by the Scottish Government and are available here: https://www.gov.scot/Topics/Statistics/Browse/Crime-Justice

Police recorded crime data for Northern Ireland are published by the Police Service of Northern Ireland and are available here: https://www.psni.police.uk/inside-psni/Statistics/. Data from the Northern Ireland Crime Survey are published by the Department of Justice and are available here: https://www.justice-ni.gov.uk/articles/northern-ireland-crime-survey.

If you have any crime-related queries in the future, you can email crimestatistics@ons.gov.uk and we will endeavour to help.
