Please supply the following information:

The number of deaths of women between the ages of 18 and 55 years old from 23 March 2020 to 31 July 2021 where the cause of death specified on the death certificate was COVID-19, with no other cause(s) listed.

We said

Thank you for your enquiry.

Unfortunately, we do not hold analysis showing COVID-19 as the only cause of death for women aged between 18-55 specifically. To fulfil this request, we would need to create bespoke analysis. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Authorities are not obligated to create information in order to respond to requests. We therefore consider this to be information not held.

However, the number of deaths where COVID-19 was recorded as the sole condition on the death certificate and COVID-19 deaths by main pre-existing condition, for England and Wales, are available in our Provisional Monthly mortality analysis, England and Wales publication. This publication contains data up to July 2021.

We use the term "due to COVID-19" where COVID-19 is the underlying cause and "Involving COVID-19" where COVID-19 is the underlying cause or a contributory cause. The dataset can be found via the following link, here

We hold the following analysis showing deaths from COVID-19 with no pre-existing conditions by broad age-bands in England and Wales: Pre-existing conditions of people who died due to COVID-19, England and Wales - Office for National Statistics. Please navigate to Table 2 of this publication to view this information for 2020 and quarter 1 and quarter 2 of 2021. This is available by broad age band and sex.

If this does not meet your needs, we may be able to create a custom output. Information on COVID-19 deaths by underlying cause and sex registered in 2020,  along with other special extracts and tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales are available to order (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate). We are unable to provide this service for 2021 data, as it is still provisional and subject to change.

Such enquiries would fall outside of the Freedom of Information regime and should be made to: Health.Data@ons.gov.uk.
