Could you please provide me with the total number of deaths recorded in Northern Ireland, by month, for 2020 v 2019. Please also provide this data broken down to show death by cause, in each year. For example: total number of deaths by cause 2019 v 2020.

We do not hold the requested data. This would need to be requested from the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA), who are responsible for statistics pertaining to Northern Ireland and can be contacted at info@nisra.gov.uk
We are primarily responsible for the production of mortality data for England and Wales, this is driven by information collected from the death certificate at death registration.
We do however report headline figures for deaths involving COVID-19 in Northern Ireland in our Deaths Registered Weekly in England and Wales publication. We also publish annual figures for Northern Ireland as part of our Vital statistics in the UK: births, deaths and marriages publication, in case this is of interest. The latest data available is for 2019, the provisional date for publication of 2020 data is December 2021.
