Thank you for your request.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) collects ethnic group data for England and Wales, not the whole of the UK.

You may wish to contact National Records of Scotland about population estimates by ethnic group for Scotland and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency about population estimates by ethnic group for Northern Ireland.

Using Nomis we have created the below table using our latest annual mid-year population estimates (mid 2020) which provides population estimates by sex and single year of age for the data you requested.

Our best and most up-to-date, official estimates of the population of England and Wales by ethnic group remains those derived  from the 2011 Census.

This data is freely available at  national and subnational level on the  Nomis website.

They have a detailed breakdown of the population of England and Wales as at census day, 27 March 2011, by ethnic group, sex and age. You can use the 'View data in browser' panel on the left-hand side of the webpage to select geographic areas, such as Nottingham, to view the data for specific areas.

  • The Ethnic group [KS201UK] table has breakdown of the population of the whole of the UK as at census day, 27 March 2011, by 11 ethnic group categories (or classifications).

Please note: These datasets are illustrative datasets only, produced as research.  They are not National Statistics. The methodology neither fully incorporates nor adjusts for migration in producing its figures. Our best official estimates remain those derived from the 2011 Census.

The  Research report on population estimates by ethnic group and religion  and the accompanying  Population characteristics research tables  provide  illustrative population estimates at national, regional and local authority level for England and Wales by ethnic group and religion for 2016.
