Numbers of deaths due to COVID-19 for England and Wales 2021, can be found in the latest weekly deaths publication. This publication includes a breakdown of deaths 'due to' COVID-19 (where it was recorded as the underlying cause of death) and deaths 'involving' COVID-19 (where it was mentioned anywhere on the death certificate). These figures can be found in the 'weekly figures by cause' table, row 20.
Weekly figures for deaths where COVID was recorded as the underlying condition for 2020 can be found in this excel download file which was published in Figure 2 of earlier versions of the weekly deaths publication.
Numbers of deaths due to COVID-19 with no pre-existing conditions from March 2020 to March 2021 are available in the Pre-existing conditions of people who died due to COVID-19, England and Wales dataset, which is published as part of our Monthly mortality analysis release.
