I am seeking the following information for England & Wales: For each letter of the alphabet, the number of individuals whose surname begins with that letter (eg, number of individuals whose surname begins with A, etc).
The census must provide you with the ability to compile that information, but I am not sure whether you do.
Please can you supply the relevant figures or the best approximation you can.

While Census Office retain, for genealogical purposes, name data from 2011 and earlier censuses - such data are not used to produce statistical outputs.
It may be possible to produce your requested statistical data as a bespoke census analysis. Such analysis is subject to feasibility assessment, legal frameworks, disclosure controls, availability of Census Office resources, ethical/Registrar General approval and cost.
