We said

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request.

Unfortunately, we do not hold the information requested on temporary accommodation or priority need.

We report on UK homelessness: 2005 to 2018, published in 2019, collated homelessness and rough sleeping data from across other government departments and administrations to present the UK picture.

While this report does not contain the information requested, it does include the following:

  • Figure 3a considers the number of households in temporary accommodation in England; no age breakdown is provided, and the data are snapshots at the end of each financial year rather than cumulative figures between 1 April and 31 March.

  • Figure 8b includes a percentage breakdown of applicants who are deemed to be unintentionally homeless and in priority need in England, by banded age categories (including 16 to 24 years).

Note that statutory homelessness statistics are on a household basis. A household could have multiple people in it, yet the reported age will be that of the main applicant.

Official homelessness statistics for England are produced by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC), which was formerly known as the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government (MHCLG). The data mentioned above are sourced from DLUHC, who may be able to assist you further. Freedom of Information requests should be sent to mhclgcorrespondence@levellingup.gov.uk, else more detail can be requested from the homelessness statistics team at HomelessnessStats@levellingup.gov.uk.
