The document "Methodology for decision making on the 2021 Census sex question concept and associated guidance" dated 10 February 2021 ('the Methodology document') states the "Potential for pre-existing campaign to escalate may also apply to this concept" in Table 7 in the row starting "Living / presenting" on page 18.

Could you provide all documents, emails, memos etc that relate to, refer to or describe the "pre-existing campaign" referred to in the Methodology document, created within the last 3 months. If no documents are found within the last 3 months, could you extend the time window out to the last 6 months.

We have thoroughly searched our systems for documents, emails and memos for this period and have only located one email and reply for the period 16 November 2020 to 15 February 2021.  The email and reply are attached.

In all, over the period 18 October 2020 to 24 November 2020 the Office for National Statistics (ONS) received 192 emails/letters relating to this subject. A significant number of these contained near identical, or very similar text.
