Please can you also advise on finding the specific data on deaths purely from influenza and pneumonia with no other underlying causes or pre-existing conditions using the NOMIS webservice or other available data sources.

Thank you for your enquiry regarding influenza and pneumonia deaths.
The number of deaths where influenza and pneumonia were the only cause of death on the death certificate in England and Wales for deaths registered between January 2020 and December 2021 was 5,841.
Unfortunately, NOMIS provides deaths by underlying cause and is unable to filter out pre-existing conditions or mentions.
ONS have not completed analysis of other causes of death, except for COVID-19 by pre-existing conditions.
However, we can create a custom output for you. Special extracts and tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales are available to order (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate).
