Please supply the number of UK teen deaths 1 July 2021 until 31 December 2021, and how that compares to the same dates for the 5 years previous.

We said

Thank you for your enquiry.

We are responsible for the production of Mortality data for England and Wales, this is driven by information collected from the death certificate at death registration. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. They can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.

We do not hold mid-year analysis of deaths in England and Wales for this specific age group.

Annual data for 2016 to 2020 is available from our NOMIS webservice and is also published in the Deaths Registered Series.

Deaths for 2021 for England and Wales will be published in July 2022 as part of our Deaths Registered Series, this is to allow the inclusion of late registrations which are deaths which have been referred for Coroner Investigation and to use finalised mid-year population estimates.

Monthly deaths and age standardised mortality rates (ASMR) are available for 2021 as part of our Monthly Mortality Analysis publication. This is based on provisional data and is subject to change.

Weekly data by 5-year age band is also available in our Deaths Registered Weekly in England and Wales publication. This is also based on provisional data and is subject to change.

If this does not meet your needs, we can create a custom output. Special extracts and tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales are available to order (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate).
