Under the Freedom of Information Act, I would like to request for the following information in 2001 and 2011 census in the PDF format:

  1. Number of people born in Malaysia
  2. Number of people born in Singapore
  3. Number of people born in Hong Kong
  4. Number of people born in Taiwan
  5. Number of people born in China
  6. Number of people born in India
  7. Number of people born in Pakistan
  8. Number of people born in Burma
  9. Main languages of people born in Malaysia
  10. Main languages of people born in Singapore
  11. Main languages of people born in Hong Kong
  12. Main languages of people born in Taiwan
  13. Main languages of people born in China
  14. Main languages of people born in India
  15. Main languages of people born in Pakistan
  16. Main languages of people born in Burma

Please see the extract from 2011 Census table QS213EW - Country of birth (17.7 kB xlsx) (expanded) provides country of birth for the eight countries requested for all usual residents in England and Wales in the accompanying downloads. This table was downloaded from Nomis. Nomis is a service run on behalf of the ONS by the University of Durham.

The 'equivalent' 2001 Census country of birth table (17.6 kB xlsx) does not however separate Burma or Taiwan as individual countries but has been provided. Neither are there any tables available that cross tabulate country of birth by main language from either the 2011 or 2001 censuses.

However, it may be possible to commission a table. The Commissioned Tables team can produce bespoke tables that contain combinations of data that have not already been published. You can request your own table to be produced, but this will incur a charge and will be subject to statistical disclosure control methods.
