We said

Thank you for your query requesting data on the price of period products over the past 5 years (July 2018 to June 2022).

The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) and the Consumer Prices Index, including owner-occupiers’ Housing costs (CPIH) are measures of price change over time. Price changes for period products are represented in the Subclass 12.1.3.2 Articles for personal hygiene and wellness, although the coverage of the category is more broad.

The 12-month growth rate for this subclass is available here.

The index (cumulative price change since 2015) for this subclass is available here.

Within 12.1.3.2 period products are represented by the basket item 520206 Tampons. The individual price quotes that were collected and used to compile estimates of price change for this item are available on our website here. These can be found by downloading the 'Price quotes...' dataset for each month and searching for the ITEM_ID 520206. Please note that identifiable information, such as store, brand and location have been removed from the dataset. Item-level estimates of price change for tampons are also available, and we have included these in a table below.

CPIH and CPI data are National Statistics at subclass levels and above. However, due to the smaller sample sizes involved, item level estimates of price change do not form part of the National Statistics series.
