You asked

Please could I request access to the Lower Super Output Area (LSOA) aggregated daily all-cause mortality data referred to in this study (doi: 10.1016/S2542-5196(22)00138-3) under the specific agreement MRP 2291/2013?

We said

Thank you for your enquiry.

We are unable to disclose the requested individual record-level data processed under our MRP process, as this is personal information. Section 39 of the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007 (SRSA) renders it an offence to disclose information held by the Statistics Board for statistical purposes that would identify an individual or a body corporate. As we are prohibited by law from publishing statistics in which individuals can be identified, we find that Section 44 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) applies.

This would also breach our Policy on protecting confidentiality in tables of birth and death statistics.

However, the data itself is available via our interactive webservice Nomis. This service provides mortality data by national, regional and LSOA geographical breakdown from 2013 to 2021.

The information you have requested part of our explorable dataset available on our NOMIS webservice

  • Select the geography (England and Wales, regional or by local authority)
  • Select Age – All ages or 5-year age bands
  • Select Gender – Total or Male/Female
  • Select rates – All deaths, rates, or percentage of population for example
  • Select cause of death (ICD10 code search is available)
  • Select format (Excel or CSV for example)

We also have the following user requested data sets available:

Deaths by LSOA, sex and age group, England and Wales, 2020 registrations

Deaths by Lower layer Super Output Area (LSOA), England and Wales: mid-year periods (1 July to 30 June) 2011 to 2020

If these outputs do not meet your needs, we can create an aggregated data set as a bespoke tabulation. This would be subject out with the Freedom of Information Act scheme and subject to disclosure controls, legal frameworks, resources, and agreement to costs under the ONS Charging Policy.
