You asked

Please provide the following statistical data relating to the county of Hampshire, specifically looking at Covid data from 01 March to today's date:

Admissions, positive cases, deaths, etc

Graphs or daily figures that can be put into graphs.

I would also like to narrow that down to the separate districts within Hampshire also for comparison on specific areas within Hampshire.

I would also like data on the economy of Hampshire during the pandemic (March – today), again, narrowed down to each district within Hampshire.

Thank you for your request. Please see the answer to your queries below.

COVID-19 admissions:

Unfortunately, we do not have access to hospital admissions and discharges. Therefore, we do not hold the data you have requested.

This data is held by NHS Digital, so they may be better placed to answer your query. They can be contacted via email at enquiries@nhsdigital.nhs.uk, and by telephone at +44 (0)3003 035678.

COVID-19 positive cases broken down into separate districts within Hampshire:

Because of small sample sizes, we only publish data at the regional level, as data at this level would be disclosive.

You can find regional level data in Tab 1e in the data set accompanying our latest bulletin.

In August we announced we are significantly expanding the infection survey to 400,000 people in England between October and March 2021 making it the UK's largest study tracking COVID-19 in the general population. This will enable us to give more detailed geographical breakdowns in the future.

COVID-19 deaths broken down into separate districts within Hampshire:

The following publication, Death registrations and occurrences by local authority and health board, will provide weekly deaths for Hampshire local authority, showing data by both date of registration and date of occurrence (date of death). This data set is updated every Tuesday. We do not provide any further geographical breakdown of this data, as the numbers would be very small and this would be disclosive.

The following publication, Deaths involving COVID-19 by local area and socioeconomic deprivation: deaths occurring between 1 March and 31 July 2020, will provide provisional counts of the number of deaths and age-standardised mortality rates involving the coronavirus (COVID-19) between 1 March and 31 July 2020 in England and Wales by MSOA, this publication also includes an interactive map where number of deaths can be found by postcode.

The economy of Hampshire during the pandemic:

Most of the economic statistics available for counties and districts of the UK are only available as annual data series, published around a year after the end of the latest year covered by the data. While these figures will not show recent effects on the economy, they are useful in presenting a baseline position from which to monitor any changes.

We have published the latest annual estimates of regional gross domestic product (GDP) and gross value added (GVA) by industry.

Here you can find statistics for the NUTS2 sub-region of Hampshire and Isle of Wight, the six NUTS3 areas (Portsmouth; Southampton; Isle of Wight; South Hampshire; Central Hampshire; North Hampshire) and, in a separate dataset, the local authority districts of Hampshire (within the South East region). The latest figures are for 2018.

We have also published annual estimates of labour productivity for the same areas, represented as GVA per hour worked and GVA per filled job.

There are also various labour market statistics available, but again most of these are published with a considerable time lag at this level of geographic breakdown.

The Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE), which can be used to look at comparable earnings at a local level, is based each year on a reference date in April. The results for ASHE 2020 are due to be published later this year.

The Business Register Employment Survey (BRES), is a business survey which looks at the structure of employment by industry at a local level. Figures for the previous year are published in the autumn.

The Annual Population Survey (APS), which is used for many labour market measures at a local level, is produced for a rolling 12-month period every 3 months. The latest published information is for the twelve-month period April 2019 to March 2020.

An alternative view of the economy can be obtained by looking at the income (and outgoings) of households in the area. We publish annual estimates of regional gross disposable household income (GDHI) for the same areas covered by our regional GDP and GVA statistics. We have published the latest figures, again up to 2018.

We have recently expanded our coverage of household sector measures by publishing experimental estimates of regional household final consumption expenditure (HFCE) and the households' saving ratio for the NUTS1 and NUTS2 regions of the UK. We have published these figures, consistent with our GDHI data.

Since 2019 we have also produced and published quarterly GDP estimates for the NUTS1 countries and regions of the UK. Although these don't break down to the level of counties or districts, the figures for the South East region should give a general view of short-term effects impacting upon the local economy. The industry breakdown included may allow you to draw inferences about particular areas where an industry is strongly represented.

We have published the latest quarterly GDP statistics, covering the period up to December 2019.

The next publication, covering the period up to March 2020, is due to be published around the end of October or early November this year.

We have recently introduced a new survey designed to monitor the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic, called the Business Impact of COVID-19 Survey (BICS). The indicators and analysis presented for BICS are based on responses from the voluntary survey, which captures businesses' responses on how their turnover, workforce prices, trade and business resilience have been affected in the two-week reference period. The data below relate to the period 24 August to 6 September 2020.

Estimates from the Business Impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19) Survey (BICS) are currently unweighted on a regional basis.

  • 97.7% of businesses in the South East reported currently trading as their trading status

  • Of businesses currently trading in South East:

    • 47.1% reported a decrease in turnover
    • 32.8% reported turnover was unaffected
    • 13.2% reported an increase in turnover
    • 7.0% reported not sure
  • Of businesses currently trading in the South East 10.8% of businesses reported that their operating costs exceeded their turnover

  • Of businesses currently trading in the South East 24.1% of businesses reported that customer interest has decreased with 10.9% indicating that interest had increased

  • Of businesses currently trading in the South East 36.1% of businesses reported that they were exporting but less than normal and 29.4% importing but less than normal

  • 8.7% of businesses in the South East had a moderate to severe risk of insolvency

Additional data on the South East region are available in this dataset.

The only economic data currently available for Hampshire and its component districts that are timely enough to show the impact on periods from March 2020 are the claimant count statistics. Please see the accompanying excel spreadsheet download named Claimant_Count_Hampshire.xslx (19.6 kB xlsx).

In this dataset the area under the control of Hampshire County Council (geographically designated by the code E10000014) does not include the unitary authorities of Southampton (E06000045) or Portsmouth (E05000044), which are self-administered, but does include all the districts listed (E07000084 to E07000094). Between them, they make up what was the historical Shire County of Hampshire.
