You asked

Please can you tell me the number of hospital and community patients that have died from only COVID-19 and no other existing co-morbidities in England.

Also the numbers for Blackpool from 2020 to 2022 broken down by individual year and also month if possible?

We said

Thank you for your enquiry.

Whilst we have conducted analysis of Coronavirus (COVID-19) deaths including pre-existing conditions, we have not conducted analysis including pre-existing conditions by month, place of occurrence and specific geography.

We can look to produce this as a bespoke request under the Requesting Statistics pathway. Special extracts and tabulations of mortality data are available to order via this route. User requested data sets are subject to disclosure control, legal frameworks, resources, and agreement to costs under the ONS (Office For National Statistics) Charging policy.

If you would like to obtain a quote for this work, please contact the Health Analysis and Pandemic Insight (HAPI) Customer Services team at Health.Data@ons.gov.uk.

Deaths due to and involving COVID-19 in Blackpool

Deaths where COVID-19 was the underlying cause of death in Blackpool are available from our explorable dataset available on our NOMIS webservice. The following table has been extracted from this dataset:

Should you wish to use NOMIS, please see the following instructions for using this service:

  • Select the geography (England and Wales, regional/local authority or type in "Blackpool")

  • Select Age – All ages or 5-year age bands

  • Select Gender – Total or Male/Female

Please note LACU means Local Authority - County level on NOMIS.

We also hold the following analysis Death registrations and occurrences by local authority and health board which is published weekly. This provides provisional counts of the number of deaths registered in England and Wales, including deaths involving coronavirus (COVID-19), by local authority, health board and place of death.

Please note, this analysis shows deaths involving COVID-19. We use the term "due to COVID-19" when referring only to deaths where that illness was recorded as the underlying cause of death. We use the term "involving COVID-19" when referring to deaths that had that illness mentioned anywhere on the death certificate, whether as an underlying cause or not.
