We are moving from updating the UK Measures of National Well-being (UKMNW) Dashboard quarterly to updating it annually, starting in May 2026.
The UN High Level Expert Group on Beyond GDP published its interim report in November 2025, which includes guidance on creating an integrated, universal framework for progress comprising of a set of key indicators.
To ensure our activities remain aligned with current ONS prioritisation and in order to reflect on this new international advice, we have decided to postpone the publication of the new, smaller set of measures to February 2026, instead of the previously scheduled date in November 2025.
Changes in estimates are displayed over the short term. This is defined as the latest estimate compared with five years ago for Protected areas, Priority species, Air pollution and Surface water status. Short-term change for all other measures is assessed as the latest estimate compared with one year ago.
