An error was identified for figures and ranks for the years 2017 to 2020. This happened because of a human error. The error affected data for Somalia in Table 2 of the 2021 edition of this dataset (Parents’ country of birth: 2021). The incorrect figures have been revised in the dataset.

We have identified a coding error in the 2025 edition of this dataset. The error affected the total fertility rate (TFR) of mothers in England and Wales born in the Americas and the Caribbean for 2001, 2011 and 2021.
The error in the code resulted in Central America being excluded from the population counts in this calculation. We have corrected the following numbers in Table 7; for 2001 TFR was 2.11 (previously published as 2.71), 2011 TFR was 1.82 (previously published as 2.74) and 2021 TFR was 1.41 (previously published as 2.50).
We are improving the quality checks for rates to reduce the risk of an error like this in the future. We apologise for this error.
Notices
08 November 2024
In our 2023 dataset, we have corrected an error in Table 4: Live births (numbers and percentages) by country of birth of mother and of father, 2008 to 2023, England and Wales.
The previous version had incorrect percentages of live births by country of birth of mother and of father for the years 2009 and 2010. The percentages for 2008 had been used for 2009 and 2010 by mistake. The numbers of live births for 2009 and 2010 are unchanged.
This was because of human error.
This error can also be found in our 2021 and 2022 datasets, which will be corrected in due course. Please contact health.data@ons.gov.uk for more information.
