Your City diarist's tongue in cheek comments about GDP revisions (Times, 3-3-2016) inadvertently raise an important point. The particular revisions he cites arose, as the ONS article clearly pointed out, from important methodological improvements in 2011. Obviously we could avoid revisions entirely if no improvements were ever incorporated. Instead those who rely on good economic data can be assured that the UK's record on estimating GDP bears comparison with the world's best.
