Statistics are most often revised for 1 of 2 reasons:

  1. For certain statistics initial estimates are released with the expectation that these may be revised and updated as further data becomes available.
  2. Revisions may also be made when methods or systems are changed.

These types of planned revisions should not be confused with errors in released statistics, which are genuine mistakes. Such mistakes occur rarely and, when they do happen, corrections are made in a timely manner, announced and clearly explained to users in line with the Code of Practice for Official Statistics (Principle 2, Practice 7).

We have corrected a presentation error in our UK Economic Accounts datasets, affecting editions from July to September 2021 to January to March 2025. The previous versions of tables 3.1.7, 3.2.7, 4.3.8a, and 4.3.11a used the incorrect series. Table 3.1.7 now uses the correct series for dataset identifiers FV2W and FV2X. Table 3.2.7 now uses the correct series for dataset identifiers FV2S and FV2T. Dataset identifiers FZRQ, FZRS and FZMB have been moved from Table 4.3.8a to Table 4.3.8. Dataset identifiers FZOL, FZOO, and M9TK have been moved to Table 4.3.11a. This happened because of human error during conversion to accessible files.

Because of processing issues, the calculation of the statistical discrepancy of net lending (+) and net borrowing (-) between financial and capital accounts was not calculated correctly for the time period 1987 to 1997 in the Quarter 2 (Apr to June) 2023 release. This has now been rectified and the tables and data are now available. The series affected are as follows. - NYVK: United Kingdom (S1) - NYOY: Financial corporations except monetary financial institutions and insurance corporations and pension funds (S124 to S127) - NYPB: Insurance corporations and pension funds (S128 & S129) - NYOX: Financial corporations (S12) - NZDW: Central government (S1311) - NYOZ: General government (S13) - NYPA: Households (S14) - NYPH: Non-profit institutions serving households (S15) - NZDV: Households and Non-profit institutions serving households (S14 and S15) All series are £million. current price, not seasonally adjusted We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
