Dataset(s): Environmental goods and services sector (EGSS) estimates

First estimates of the UK environmental goods and services sector (EGSS) for 2020 and revised estimates for 2010 to 2019. Included are estimates of output, gross value added, employment and exports.

Provides files to download data as it existed for this dataset on previous dates.

Statistics are most often revised for 1 of 2 reasons:

  1. For certain statistics initial estimates are released with the expectation that these may be revised and updated as further data becomes available.
  2. Revisions may also be made when methods or systems are changed.

These types of planned revisions should not be confused with errors in released statistics, which are genuine mistakes. Such mistakes occur rarely and, when they do happen, corrections are made in a timely manner, announced and clearly explained to users in line with the Code of Practice for Official Statistics (Principle 2, Practice 7).

We have corrected minor errors found in the Environmental goods and services sector (EGSS) estimates released on the 5 June 2023. The previous version used incorrect estimates for output, gross value added and exports of the ‘production of industrial environmental equipment’ activity with impacts on the associated classifications and totals for 2020 only. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Correction See correction
We have corrected errors found in the Environmental goods and services sector (EGSS) estimates released on the 21st of March 2022. The previous version displayed incorrect estimates for output, gross value added, exports and employment in the following activities: environmental consultancy and engineering, insulation activities, production of industrial environmental equipment, production of renewable energy, recycling, waste and wastewater. This has resulted in revisions to the headline estimates although the trends in the data are unchanged. This was due to human error when compiling the accounts. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. The latest data for the Environmental Goods and Service Sector, which includes data for 2020, is available here UK Environmental Accounts: 2023.
