Origin-destination tables are matrices which provide counts of the flows of people migrating (in the year before the Census) or travelling to work (in the week before the Census) by area to area. In addition to overall counts of the flows between areas, the tables provide results broken down by various topics, such as age and ethnicity.
Each of the two main types of Origin-Destination Statistics - Migration Statistics and Workplace Statistics contain different tables for local authorities, wards and Output Areas. More information is provided for each below:
Output Areas
The Origin-Destination statistics: Output Areas contains data for the flows of migrants and the daily flows of workers from residence to workplace, provided as matrices, for all Output Areas of origin to all Output Areas of destination. There are counts of every area to area flow in the UK (each cell in the matrix), with breakdowns of the characteristics of the people in the flow.
Wards
The Origin-Destination statistics: Wards contains data for the flows of migrants and the daily flows of workers from residence to workplace, provided as matrices, for all wards of origin to all wards of destination. There are counts of every area to area flow in the UK (each cell in the matrix), with breakdowns of the characteristics of the people in the flow.
Local Authorities
Origin-Destination statistics: Local authorities contains data for the flows of migrants and the daily flows of workers from residence to workplace, provided as matrices, for all local authorities of origin to all local authorities of destination.
Moving Groups
The Origin-Destination statistics: Moving Groups contains data for the flows of whole migrant households, or groups of people within households, between individual local authorities and between wards, in England and Wales. Results are also included for comparable areas in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
