Established in 2023, the ONS Local service was created to improve access and use of local data, statistics and analysis, and to better understand the evidence needs of areas across the UK.
Working closely with local, combined, and strategic authorities, devolved governments and central government, we help ensure that decisions are informed by robust and relevant evidence. ONS Local also works in partnership with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG).
What we do
Through a network of analysts embedded across the nations and regions of the UK, we provide expert support, connect users with the right data, and help strengthen analytical capability in local government and organisations.
The ONS Local analytical service offer is based on five areas of support:
- analytical – provide analytical advice, and bespoke data and analysis
- data – help users find and access relevant data and expertise
- network – bring together local stakeholders across the analytical community to share, learn and build stronger connections
- strategic – identify priorities, understand user needs and inform statistical development
- capability – build analytical skills, confidence and capability across organisations
