You asked

I'd like to know the number of babies born for the years 2021 and 2022 respectively, broken down by month or, if possible, day by day. In total, it would be the number of newborns (on a daily or monthly basis) born at each hospital within each UK area team, along with their gender, from 2021 and 2022

We are responsible for the production of birth registration statistics for England and Wales, this is driven by information collected from the birth certificate at birth registration.

National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. They can be contacted at  foi@nrscotland.gov.uk  and  info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.

We have recently published the following analysis, Births in England and Wales 2021, which will provide annual live births by sex for England and Wales in 2021.

Our interactive webservice Nomis will provide annual data by local authority or by sex and characteristics of mother from 2013 to 2021.

We have not produced a monthly time series for births for 2021 or 2022, nor have we produced births by clinical commission group (CCG), however we do hold more historic data in the following list of user requested data sets:

Further analysis of births data is available to request via our bespoke services. These services are subject to disclosure controls, legal frameworks, resources and agreement to costs under the ONS Charging policy.

Please note, 2022 data is not yet complete. Birth statistics are derived from information recorded when live births and stillbirths are registered as part of civil registration, a legal requirement; these data represent the most complete data source available. Please note, parents have 42 days to register a birth, but there are occasions where registration delays occur. More information on birth registrations and birth statistics are available in our Births QMI.

For further information or to obtain a quote for a bespoke data set please contact the Health and Life events (HALE) Customer Services team at Health.data@ons.gov.uk.
