You asked

I would like to make the following Freedom of Information (FOI) request regarding Road Mobile Cranes.

During the period 2019 to 2024, how many road mobile cranes have been involved in accidents involving pedestrians?

We said

Thank you for your request.

We are responsible for the production of mortality statistics. These are derived from information collected from the death certificate. We do not hold any information on accidents occurring in England and Wales which do not result in death. All the conditions mentioned on a death certificate are coded using the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10).

We do not hold information on deaths involving road-mobile cranes because the ICD-10 does not specifically mention their involvement in any cause code.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) may be able to help you with the number of accidents involving cranes as they routinely publish statistics on fatal and non-fatal accidents occurring in specific industries. If you cannot find the information you need, you can contact HSE via your local office

If you are looking for accidents relating to mobile cranes on public roads, your question may be better placed with the Department for Transport (DfT). They publish annual statistics on road accidents and have a collision analysis tool where you can download your data. However, we think that ‘road mobile cranes’ would be grouped in the ‘Other’ vehicle category. You can contact DfT on roadacc.stats@dft.gov.uk for further information.
