Newborn baby births and deaths by ethnicity

You asked

1. I require data on newborn baby births & newborn baby deaths (including stillbirths) at the hospital - listed by ethnicity and gender for the period between 1957 and 1967.
   
2. I specifically require data on newborn deaths of babies with Caribbean mothers for the period between 1957 and 1967.
   
3. I also require data on newborn baby deaths of children listed with unmarried mothers for the period between 1957 and 1967.
   
4. I require data on newborn baby deaths listed by social class for the period between 1957 and 1967. 
   
5. I will also require data on newborn deaths of babies with Asian mothers for the period between 1957 and 1967.

Could I please have a "sample week"  for each of the eleven years listed, of the requested data above; namely from the 1st March through to the 10th March?

We are responsible for birth and death statistics for England and Wales. For figures pertaining to births and deaths registered in Scotland and Northern Ireland you will need to contact National Records of Scotland and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Centre, respectively.

We have not produced the data you have requested. We may be able to create a custom output to suit some of your needs. Information on births and baby deaths along with other special extracts and tabulations of births and deaths data for England and Wales are available to order, subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, in line with our Charging Policy. Please contact Health.Data@ons.gov.uk to discuss this request further and we can advise you on what data we can supply. 

Please note that we only hold birth and death registration data in electronic format from 1967 and 1959 onwards, respectively. In addition, ethnicity is not collected on the birth registration. It is collected on the birth notification, which is a different data source of births data that ONS also receives (from the NHS) and which we use to complement the registration data. However, we only hold the notification data from 2006 onwards. As such, we can already advise that any custom outputs we may be able to produce for you (as per paragraph 2) covering your time period of interest cannot include any breakdowns by ethnicity.
