You asked

I wish to see the recently published (24 Aug 2017) exit checks data, for long term international migrants, broken down to local authority level for local authorities in the West Midlands and Warwickshire, especially Coventry.

If possible, please provide the information also broken down by the purpose of immigration (eg student, work, family purposes etc).

I would like to see the data from the inception of the exit checks programme to the present (as near as possible).

Can you also provide any breakdown you have of the information by age of migrant, gender, and EU or Non EU origin.

Thank you for your enquiry about exit checks data.

Unfortunately we do not hold the data you have requested.

Our migration statistics use the UN recommended definition of a long-term international migrant: “A person who moves to a country other than that of his or her usual residence for a period of at least a year (12 months), so that the country of destination effectively becomes his or her new country of usual residence.”

For your information, in the past we’ve accessed exit checks data from Home Office to produce some aggregated tables on long-term non-EU student migration and help inform a discussion on international student migration, these can be found in the Technical Paper: International Student Migration – August 2017. However, the data we accessed does not provide the breakdowns you have requested.

Please also note the exit checks programme only collects data on individuals subject to immigration control, i.e. non-EEA travelers departing from and arriving in the UK and does not provide data for long term international migration, broken down to local authority level.

You may wish to refer to the latest Local Area Migration Indicators, UK data (published 24 August 2017), which covers long term international migration at the local authority level.
