Young adults living at home

For the calendar year 2014, or the last available calendar year, please provide:

1. Grouped by ethnic background

   • the number/count of young adults between the ages of 20 and 34 who are married AND are living at home with at least 1 parent
   • the percentage of young adults between the ages of 20 and 34 who are married AND are living at home with at least 1 parent as a proportion of the total number/count of young adults (20 to 34) in that ethnic group

2. Grouped by ethnic background

   • the number of households that live in social housing provided by a public or charitable body
   • the number of households that live in private housing (privately rented, mortgaged or owned outright)
   • the total number of households in that ethnic group

In response to Question 1: Special tabulations of data are available to order (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate). As this information is already available to you via this route ONS considers that S21(1) applies to this request and the information does not have to be supplied under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act. S21(1) is an absolute exemption and no consideration of the public interest test needs to be applied.

If you choose to contact the Families team they will be able to discuss your requirements with you, including the geographies and variables that are available, they will also be able to discuss the likely costs surrounding the production of the table that you have requested in Question 1. Alternatively, a great deal of information from the 2011 Census has been published, including ethnicity by age and marital status. However, this is available for England and Wales and not the UK as the Office for National Statistics is responsible for the census in England and Wales only. You may be interested in published table DC1201EW which contains information on households in England and Wales by household composition and by ethnic group of Household Reference Person (HRP).

With regard to question 2, the latest available information about tenure and ethnicity is from the 2011 Census. Published table DC4201EW provides information on tenure and ethnicity of the Household Reference Person.

Statistics from the 2011 Census in England and Wales are freely available on the ONS or nomis websites. If you do need any help in finding census statistics please email census customer services at census.customerservices@ons.gov.uk. They will be pleased to help you. It is not necessary to make a Freedom of Information request.
