We also collect data on vehicle-related theft on the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW). This data focuses on measuring prevalence and incidents of vehicle-related theft as this is not dependent on whether the theft was reported to the police. In our Crime in England and Wales: Appendix tables we publish the number of incidents of vehicle-related theft from the year ending December 1981 to the year ending March 2025 in Worksheets A1 and A2. These worksheets include data for the years in your request. Worksheets A3 and A4 present prevalence rates for vehicle-related theft for the year ending December 1981 to the year ending March 2025.
We publish more detailed CSEW data in our Nature of crime: vehicle-related theft tables. These present information on when incidents happened, where it took place, the victim’s perception of the incident, and what items were stolen or damaged.
