You asked
I am looking for exact numbers of women employed in film and video production.
If possible, please could I have the exact figures for the female share of film and video production workforce (SIC 9211) from 1997 onwards?
We said
Thank you for your query regarding females workers in the film and video production workforce.
We estimate the number of people working in different low level industry classifications from the Business Register and Employment Survey (BRES). However, this source does not give a breakdown by sex. You can get the latest BRES estimates from our Nomis website, along with estimates from the various surveys that proceeded BRES.
An alternative source, Workforce Jobs (WFJ), does breakdown employment by industry and sex, but does not produce the low level of industrial detail you are interested in. This can be obtained from WFJ estimates from our Nomis website.
While it is not possible to produce estimates by sex from BRES, or detailed industry information from WFJ, a third source does hold information that includes industry and sex. This is the Annual Population Survey (APS), a survey based on interviews with people resident in households in the UK. We do not routinely publish estimates of detailed industry by sex from the APS, but you can request a tailored analysis by emailing our Social Surveys team at socialsurveys@ons.gov.uk. There may be a charge for this service depending on the amount of time taken to develop the analysis and undertake quality and disclosure control processes. Please contact the team for more information on this service.
As the requested information can be obtained via an alternative route, even if only on payment, Section 21(2)(a) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) applies.
