You asked

I have read three separate responses to FOI requests on your website, published on Dec 1, Dec 7, and Nov 30, 2020, with reference to the fact that you ceased preparing statistics which broke down deaths from or with Covid 19 where the deceased already had an existing co-morbidity (by type) for England and Wales. There are others requesting similar information.

The publication you previously produced in response to COVID-19 was: Deaths involving COVID-19, England and Wales. Tables 5, 6a, 6b, and 6c of this publication provide COVID-19 death figures broken down by underlying health condition in England and Wales between March and June 2020

You stated that the last set of data of this nature was produced for the period March to June 2020, and that the collection of such data had ceased due to the reduction in the number of cases.

Given that cases are again now accelerating, please can you confirm when you will begin republishing this data, and from which weekly period it will commence?

If you will not be producing this data, please can you explain why you are not doing so?

Thank you for your request.

Owing to public demand, we have been reassessing the possibility of resuming this publication.

We have now reached a decision, and we plan to include the analysis referenced in your request in our Deaths registered monthly in England and Wales publication, starting from 26 February 2021.

As part of these plans we will update the information we have already published. This is because the deaths in the tables you cited are based on the date a death occurred and not on the date a death was registered. This will enable us to include any deaths that occurred before July 2020, but had not yet been registered by the time we published the last update for Deaths involving COVID-19, England and Wales.
