FOI REF: FOI-2023-1066
You asked
I would like to request data on violent crime in England and Wales broken down by the ethnicity of the perpetrator from 2016 to the most recent available year. Specifically, I am requesting the number of recorded incidents of violent crime and violent crime being broken down by the ethnicity of the perpetrator per capita.
We said
Thank you for your request.
Our publications and data concern crime as it is experienced by victims, or as it is recorded by police. Unfortunately, we do not, generally, produce statistics or details on the offender.
We provide a breakdown of victimisation over time and by various demographic characteristics in a dataset, published alongside our annual release. Our latest annual release was Crime in England and Wales: year ending March 2022 and the dataset providing a breakdown by certain characteristics is Crime in England and Wales: Annual Trend and Demographic Tables.

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) are primarily responsible for collating data on offenders and may be best placed to assist you further. They publish statistics each quarter which may be of help and you might be able to gain some of the information you are looking for by using the MoJ's Outcomes by Offence data tool: June 2022 which can be filtered by offence group and ethnicity of the perpetrator.
Should you need any additional assistance or have any queries regarding their data, the MoJ can be contacted via ESD@justice.gov.uk.
You may also find the Ethnicity and the Criminal Justice System release produced by the Ministry of Justice helpful. This collection of reports compiles statistics from data sources across the Criminal Justice System in England and Wales.
