Please could you provide the following data:
Variables:
the value of trade in goods and services flowing from each NUTS 3 region in England to each other NUTS 3 region in England (i.e. for every ordered pair of NUTS 3 regions in England, including flows from one to itself).
Years:
2011, and additionally as many years between 2006 and 2016 as are available.
If data is held at a finer geographical level, please provide it at the finest level available. Similarly, if it is only held at a more aggregated level, please provide it at this level. If the data is available disaggregated into the value of trade in goods and the value of trade in services, please separately provide the values of trade in goods, services and their sum.
Please could you also provide answers to the following:
- If available, what is the source of the data?
- If you do not hold this information, are there other public bodies that may hold it?

Thank you for your request.
We do not hold estimates of the value of trade in goods and services flowing between each pair of NUTS 3 regions in England for 2011, or for the period 2006 to 2016.
However, we publish more recent estimates at a higher geographical level which may be of interest.
Our Interregional trade in goods and services, UK dataset provides estimates for 2019, 2020 and 2021 at International Territorial Level 1 (ITL1). These data cover trade between the nine English ITL1 regions, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The estimates therefore do not provide the NUTS 3 geographical detail or the years specified in your request.
The published data include separate estimates for trade in goods and trade in services and are available in our Interregional trade in goods and services, UK dataset.
Source of the data
There is no single UK-wide data source that directly records all interregional trade flows.
Our interregional trade estimates use a combination of survey, administrative and devolved administration data. There is no equivalent England-specific regional trade survey providing direct measures of trade between English regions, so flows involving England are estimated.
Other public bodies
The devolved administrations collect information on trade involving Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. These data contribute to our interregional trade estimates.
We are not aware of another public body that holds a complete dataset covering trade in goods and services between every pair of NUTS 3 regions in England for 2011 or the period 2006 to 2016.
