Thank you for your request.

The vaccination statistics that we produce are estimates based on the percentages of participants vaccinated in our study and should not be confused with the official estimates for the UK which are published on the coronavirus dashboard by Public Health England. Differences between official figures and the estimates from this survey differ in scale across each of the four nations (some survey estimates are closer to the official reported figures than others) because of differences in reporting dates and the inclusion of National Immunisation Management System – the official administrative vaccination data – for England.

The COVID-19 Infection Survey (CIS) is a community survey which estimates the number of current COVID-19 infections within the community population; community in this instance refers to private residential households and it excludes those in hospitals, care homes or other institutional settings. We estimate the percentage of people who have tested positive for COVID-19 at a point in time in the population by testing a representative sample of people in the UK. Participants are swabbed every week for the first 5 weeks and then every month thereafter. A sample of these participants will also have their blood tested for antibodies to COVID-19.

We do not produce vaccination percentages broken down by ethnicity. To do this we would need to create bespoke analysis. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Authorities are not obligated to create information in order to respond to requests. We therefore consider this to be information not held. The ONS' Opinions and Lifestyle survey have produced this analysis on vaccine hesitancy which includes information on vaccine hesitancy by ethnicity.

In the dataset accompanying our regular vaccine and antibodies article, you can find weekly modelled estimates for vaccination percentages for England, separated by those who have received at least one dose and those who have been fully vaccinated on tab 1E. These percentages are broken down by age group, by single year of age, and by region on tabs 1G, 1D and 1F respectively.

In the same data set, you can find weekly modelled estimates for vaccination percentages, separated by dose in Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland on tabs 2D, 3D and 4D respectively. These are also broken down by age group and single year of age on tab 2E for Wales; tab 3E for Northern Ireland; and tab 4E for Scotland.

Your questions about confirmation of the figure of 36.9 million would be better placed with Public Health England who are responsible for producing the official estimates on vaccination. They can be contacted via email at wn_coronavirus@phe.gov.uk.
