You asked

I wanted to request if you had any statistics on cold cases e.g. murders that've remained unsolved for 5+ years that have been solved in the past 10 years.

We said

Thank you for your request.

We routinely publish detailed statistics on homicides in England and Wales and the most up to date figures can be found in our 'Homicide in England and Wales: year ending March 2020' publication.

Appendix Table 21 shows the number of offences currently recorded as homicide, by outcome for principal suspect, year ending March 2010 to year ending March 2020. The data table provides the number of homicide offences in which no suspect was charged (row 24), however there is no specific category for "unsolved".

Data regarding homicides is provided to us from the Homicide Index, which is held and collated by the Home Office.

They may be able to assist you further with your request. They can be contacted at the following email address: CrimeandPoliceStats@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk.
