We said

Thank you for your query request.

We estimate both unemployment and youth unemployment for local areas using the Annual Population Survey (APS), a survey based on interviews with members of private households in the UK.

These estimates are published on our Nomis website in the APS dataset. The Nomis website allows you to draw out a range of variables for different geographic areas and time periods.

You need to select the geographies that you are interested in. Regions, along with both NUTS 2 and NUTS 3 areas are available to select.

Having selected the geographies, you can select the variables that you are interested in. Unemployment rate appears within the Key Variables set, whereas Youth Unemployment would be within the Unemployment Rate variable set.

For poverty rates, we produced an article that looks at poverty in the UK and EU for the 2017 period. These estimates are based on data collected for the EU-Survey on Living Conditions (SLC).

Persistent poverty in the UK and EU: 2017

However, following the EU Withdrawal Act we made changes to the way SLC data are prepared, processed, and disseminated (some systems have needed to be moved in-house). We are currently working to complete this.

Secondly, the pandemic meant we needed to shift data collection from interviewing face to face, to interviewing over the telephone. In order to continue to collect the core information we need for our income national statistics, and to try to preserve response rates as best as possible, we needed to cut the length of the survey on the phone. We did this by removing some of the questions used for EU-SILC.

As such the further breakdown of the analysis you require is not held. However, this can be commissioned for you as a bespoke request.
