Thank you for your request.

We estimate unemployment figures for local areas from the Annual Population Survey (APS), based on interviews with people resident in households in the UK. However, for local authorities we produce a modelled estimate of unemployment which borrows strength both from the APS and information on unemployment related benefits.

According to the model-based estimates, the unemployment level for Bassetlaw for the twelve-month periods January to December 2023, 2024 and 2025 was 1,800, 2,900 and 2,100 respectively. The estimates for January to December 2025 are the most recent estimates available.

The model-based estimates have been created for total employment and not for age breakdowns. We do not hold analysis showing age-based estimates of unemployment for Bassetlaw from the APS. We have not created this information previously due to the small sample sizes.

The model-based estimates of unemployment, along with a range of APS estimates for local areas are published regularly on our Nomis website

We regularly publish household incomes, taxes and benefits in our Effects of taxes and benefits on UK household income releases, which are currently only available up to the FYE 2024.  These include estimates of cash benefits received by UK households by country and region in  Table 18. However, we do not hold estimates broken down by Local Authority or number of benefit claimants, including those for Bassetlaw.

You might also be interested in our Income estimates for small areas, England and Wales: financial year ending 2023, noting that this is published at the Middle Super Output Area (MSOA) level, which would allow analysis of income data for MSOA's within the Bassetlaw Local Authority. However due to the modelling being undertaken at MSOA level, the resulting statistics are not aggregable to higher geographies.

We would recommend contacting the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) for specific data relating to benefit claimants.
