You asked

I would like to make a Freedom of Information Request regarding the population of England, Ireland (Northern), Scotland and Wales up to the end of the year 2023 also to the end of year 2019.

We said

Thank you for your request.

The most up to date Population estimates for England and Wales: mid-2022 were released on 23 November 2023.

The ONS is only responsible for the census for England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland carry out their own census, their contact details are provided further below.

The next release of mid-year estimates for the UK (mid-2022 data) is expected to be released March to April 2024. These estimates had to be delayed due to synchronisation issues of UK data. This is because the census in England and Wales and Northern Ireland was in 2021, while Scotland held theirs in 2022.

Please see the following link to our release calendar entry which will be updated when the date is confirmed, and again when the data are published: Population Estimates for England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland mid-2022

Although the UK censuses historically take place on the same day they are run separately by each National Statistics Office (Northern Ireland Statistics & Research Agency (NISRA), National Records of Scotland (NRS), and the Office for National Statistics (ONS) for both England and Wales).
