What % & value of each industry for United Kingdom, is funded by public money?

We said

Thank you for your request.

We are able to estimate a division of industry gross value added (GVA) into three parts:

  1. That relates to central or local government or public corporations,

  2. That relates to other non-market activity (principally non-profit institutions serving households (NPISH),

  3. That relates to other market activity (principally private corporations).

The data informing this division are taken from our Input-Output Supply and Use Tables published on 29 October 2021, with additional sector detail coming from unpublished data within that system.

The data within these tables are all in current basic prices, so only the latest year (2019) will be consistent with the volume GVA data shown in Table 1b of your linked dataset.

The industry detail contained within the Supply and Use Tables exceeds that shown in Table 1b of your linked dataset. Rather than combine industries to recreate the structure of Table 1b we have included all the additional detail in case it is of interest and use to you. You can recreate the industries in Table 1b by simply aggregating the values for relevant component industries. Please see the accompanying download named 'Total industry gross value added (GVA) in Public Sector, other non-markets and other markets in 2019'.
